Our mixed-age Nursery School is made up of two groups: Little Peris (Nursery children, 2-3-year olds) and Big Peris (Pre-Reception children, 3-4-year olds).
Throughout Early Years, the emphasis is on helping Little and Big Peris develop their independence, self-confidence, and physical skills. Whilst we plan for each of these age groups accordingly, our learning environment enables all girls and boys to learn from one another, providing opportunities for them to develop positive behaviours and social skills from a wider age range of children.
Our Little Peris can observe their older peers and learn new language, develop play skills and gain new ideas from them. In turn, our Big Peris develop caring and empathy skills, as well as sense of pride, as they help their smaller classmates. We also provide opportunities for our Big Peris to integrate with Reception Class, enabling them to have older role models. However, every child is an individual and we will always endeavour to involve them in experiences in accordance with their level of development, irrespective of their age.
There are times of day however where Little Peris and Big Peris separate for specific learning experiences. Our Big Peris require more guided learning as they are prepared for Reception Class. In Pre-Reception, we place a greater focus on Mathematics and Literacy, with daily Numeracy experiences and Phonics lessons. The pupils are taught about the world around them, including to have respect for all communities and be good citizens.
