As pupils move up the school into Year 5, they are exposed to a more structured curriculum that covers a broad range of subjects. They are also given opportunities to take on more responsibility, such as ‘librarians’, and take on leading roles in being proud ambassadors for the school. Year 5 pupils use their growing independence and maturity to take more personal responsibility for their classwork, homework, and participation in other events such as school trips and assemblies.
The 11+ preparation is in full flow in Year 5. The provision of English and Maths is rigorous and highly structured, whilst still incorporating the flexibility needed to deliver lessons effectively to all pupils. Our curriculum aims to cover all of the 11+ English and Maths topics by the end of Year 5; the delivery of our curriculum is overseen by the English and Maths subject leaders
In Year 5, lessons are taught by class teachers and a range of specialist teachers. External teachers also come in to teach philosophy and coding, allowing our pupils to gain a broad variety of skills. Sport is also a strong feature at Falcons School for Girls, and pupils in Year 5 are given more opportunities to participate in various sporting fixtures. Music, Art and Drama, all taught by subject specialists, are highly regarded by the staff, parents and pupils. Throughout the year, the Year 5 pupils take part in events such as young musician concerts, LAMDA recitals, Harvest festival concerts, assemblies, design and technology days, the school play, and much more!
